Ever wonder how to tell the difference between windswell and groundswell? Curious how a 'set' forms and what determines how many waves are in each set? Which waves are better to surf or swim in and why?
About our Teacher
A born and raised local surfer since age 6, Jesse Spooner aka 'Spoonsurf' holds a Masters in Environmental Science & Policy from Johns Hopkins University and a BS in Marine Science Environmental Studies from Florida Technical Institute. He is a teacher at Avenues Studio and formerly taught science and coached surfing at The Ross School. In addition to studying Wave Science, Spooner has taught surfing for over 25 years and formerly competed in the sport. This course is not just for surfers but for anyone curious about learning more about waves, their impact and the forces that create them.
